If Captured Lies were a Movie, Who Should Play Geoff?

Maggie Thom, Multi-Award Winning Author, Speaker, Writing Coach

Captured Lies is book 1 in The Caspian Wine Series. Maybe because Captured Lies was the first book I published or maybe because I just like the story and the characters, it is one of my favorites. I know you’re not supposed to have favorites when you write them but I do.

Who is Geoff?

Now I’d like to look at who would play Geoff. If you’ve read Captured Lies, you know that Geoff is the main bad character. He is someone who has a lot of issues. He had a very humiliating childhood but also a very privileged one. He has learned how to use both to his advantage and of course he wants to get back at those that he blames the most for his upbringing.

Some key things about Geoff: he’s 68, he was illegitimate (his dad cheated), he is VP of Caspian Wine, his sister Dorothea is CEO, he has some pretty awful vices and he is very narcisistic.

Sounds like a great guy, right?

Can she untangle 30 years of secrets, lies and deceit?

She was kidnapped not once but twice…

and now someone wants her dead because of it…

Her life was a lie!

Bailey knew her upbringing hadn’t been normal but she’s worked hard to stabilize her life. She finally has a good business, a stable home; her life is miles from that of her childhood. Then her mom suddenly dies, leaving a gaping hole and a discovery  that they may not even be related. If Guy, the private investigator is to be believed, her life was a lie. Growing up on the run has prepared Bailey for once again, fleeing to stay alive. Using the skills she learned on the street, Bailey travels back through a sketchy and dangerous past, to find answers. Dodging bullets, staying ahead of those who want her dead and convincing Guy she can do it alone, are making it difficult to uncover not only the secrets of her mother’s past but that of a family claiming she is theirs.

Everyone seems to have a story… but who’s telling the truth? And who wants her dead? To discover the truth, she’ll have to untangle a web of deceit, lies, and secrets dating back over thirty years.

Who should play Geoff?

I have a clear idea of who Geoff  is and how I see him but would love your opinion. Who do you think should play Geoff if Captured Lies were to be a movie?

This was tough because I hate to think of having to put someone into playing a dark role but I looked at actors that I’ve seen both good people and bad people. I want Geoff to be someone who has charm and a likeability factor but he has to have a very dark side and be comfortable with it.

There were so many good actors to choose from. This was really difficult.

Both of these two actors, Andy Garcia and John Larroquette have played funny men, serious men and very dark men. I think they are both incredible actors with a lot of versatility.
