If Captured Lies were a Movie, who’d play Guy?

Maggie Thom, Multi-Award Winning Author, Speaker, Writing Coach

Captured Lies is book 1 in The Caspian Wine Series. Maybe because Captured Lies was the first book I published or maybe because I just like the story and the characters, it is one of my favorites. I know you’re not supposed to have favorites when you write them but I do.

Making Captured Lies into a movie?

Now I’d like to look at who would play Guy. Guy is the leading male character in my novel. He is a Private Investigator. He thinks he has an easy task of finding the lost daughter and grandchild to a wealthy family, who’s been missing for 30 years) but soon discovers that all is not as easy as he thought. Trying to get Bailey to trust him so that he can keep her safe is almost a full time job in itself.

Guy is one of my favorite characters, he is smart, funny, good at his job and kind. He’s tough when he needs to be but he’s genuinely a good guy. He soon realizes though that being nice with Bailey and trying to protect her is not going to work. She has her own ideas and if he truly wants that to happen he has to start sharing what he knows.

So the person I’m looking for to play guy has to be smart, funny, able to take it and give it and has to be agile as there is a fair bit of action in this story.

So who would you have play Guy? Scroll down to choose.

Can she untangle 30 years of secrets, lies and deceit?

She was kidnapped not once but twice…

and now someone wants her dead because of it…

Her life was a lie!

Bailey knew her upbringing hadn’t been normal but she’s worked hard to stabilize her life. She finally has a good business, a stable home; her life is miles from that of her childhood. Then her mom suddenly dies, leaving a gaping hole and a discovery  that they may not even be related. If Guy, the private investigator is to be believed, her life was a lie. Growing up on the run has prepared Bailey for once again, fleeing to stay alive. Using the skills she learned on the street, Bailey travels back through a sketchy and dangerous past, to find answers. Dodging bullets, staying ahead of those who want her dead and convincing Guy she can do it alone, are making it difficult to uncover not only the secrets of her mother’s past but that of a family claiming she is theirs.

Everyone seems to have a story… but who’s telling the truth? And who wants her dead? To discover the truth, she’ll have to untangle a web of deceit, lies, and secrets dating back over thirty years.

Who should play Guy?

I have a clear idea of who Guy is and how I see him but would love your opinion. Who do you think should play Guy if Captured Lies were to be a movie?

I’ve seen Theo James play a number of roles and think he is a pretty good actor. I haven’t seen Liam Hemsworth in too many roles but I just saw him in the new movie – Isn’t It Romantic. He played the funny guy well and the serious guy well. So I think both could do the role justice. What do you think?

Liam Hemsworth
